DPP’s lead narrows in presidential poll
DPP Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen's lead is narrowing over her strongest potential Kuomintang (KMT) opponent in the presidential election. That’s according to the results of a poll released Wednesday.

In the United Daily News survey, Tsai beat KMT Chairman and New Taipei Mayor Eric Chu by a 42 to 34% margin. The eight-point gap was down from the 14-point advantage Tsai held in a similar poll two months ago.

The KMT also kicked off its presidential nomination procedure on Wednesday, with Chu and Legislative President Wang Jin-pyng viewed as the party's best bets against Tsai.

But Eric Chu said on Wednesday that his priority right now is to do his best to be a good mayor until his term ends in 2017. Chu also urged fellow party members to step forward to make the party stronger.
