Taiwan's jobless rate edged up 0.03 percentage points to 3.72% in March. But the figure is still the lowest for any March on record. That’s the word from the government statistics office on Wednesday.
The 0.03 percent increase from February partly reflected the end of some temporary contract work after the Lunar New Year holiday. The statistics office said that many workers tend to quit their jobs following the Lunar New Year holiday to look for new employers. This also boosted unemployment figures in March.
The number of unemployed workers in Taiwan totaled 431,000. That’s up 3,000 from a month earlier. But the number of first time jobseekers for March fell 3,000 from February. The office said that this helped stabilize the entire jobless rate for the month.
The government statistics office said the higher number of employed people reflects a recovery of the local economy that has been spurring job creation.
