Taiwan welcomes Chinese veterans to Sino-Japanese war commemorations
Defense ministry spokesman David Lo

Taiwan is hosting a series of events commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Chinese victory over Japan in the Second Sino-Japanese War. The defense ministry says it welcomes Chinese veterans to come to Taiwan to attend the events.

Defense ministry spokesman David Lo said that Taiwanese law forbids Mainland visitors from visiting military bases. But Lo said that there will be many activities that Chinese visitors can attend.

"We welcome them to visit the Second Sino-Japanese War exhibitions at the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall, the Republic of China Armed Forces Museum and Academia Historica," said Lo. "There will also be a commemorative concert. We welcome these elders to participate in any events that are not held on military bases."

The Republic of China is Taiwan’s official name. During the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Republic of China government was based in Mainland China. The Republic of China’s defeat of Japan brought an end to Japanese colonial rule over Taiwan.
