Economics Minister John Deng has announced that the economics ministry will hold a meeting on Friday to discuss the worsening water situation in the southern city of Kaohsiung.
Deng said that ministry officials will consider whether to begin water rationing in Kaohsiung.
Deng’s announcement comes as Taiwan deals with the worst drought it has faced in decades. The government has already required factories in Kaohsiung to cut water usage by 10%. The lack of a reservoir in the Kaohsiung area and a lack of recent rainfall have aggravated the water shortage.
