International exhibition gets stamp of approval from philatelists

One of the largest stamp exhibitions in Asia has kicked off in Taipei, showcasing some 1,000 frames of stamps from 24 countries. The estimated insurance value of the works on show is NT$1.5 billion (US$48 million).

The 30th Asian International Stamp Exhibition opened in Taipei on Friday. This is the fourth time that the event has been held in Taiwan. The exhibition attracted thousands of passionate philatelists who waited patiently to see rare stamps.

The highlights of the exhibition include the earliest cover with a Taiwan customs cancellation that dates back to 1875, and covers salvaged from the German airship “Hindenburg”, which tragically burst into flames in 1937.

The exhibition will run through Apr. 28 at the Taipei World Trade Center. Admission is free.
