The economics ministry has been holding job fairs to help the business sector with opportunities in emerging markets. That’s because there has been a growing demand for skilled workers familiar with these countries.
There are about 5,000 foreign students in Taiwan and most of them come from Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan and India. Some of them are also of Taiwanese descent.
Economics official Chen Wen-bin said on Wednesday that the fairs are a win-win situation for the business sector and job seekers.
“For example, there are Indonesian students of Taiwanese descent," said Chen. "If a company is interested in expanding its market in Indonesia, it will look for those who have some understanding of Taiwan as well as [Indonesia’s] culture and language. It works out well whether they work in Taiwan or are sent to their home country to work for the company.”
In the last three years, the government has helped the business sector hire 445 students from countries of emerging markets.
