The National Immigration Agency (NIA) says that the six cabinet officials who are part of a KMT delegation to China are not there in an official capacity. The clarification came on Monday following concern that the officials’ trip to China was in violation of cross-strait exchange regulations.

The ruling party delegation was in China attending an annual forum jointly hosted by the ruling party – the Kuomintang (KMT) – and the Communist Party of China.

NIA Director-General Mo Tien-hu said that the six Cabinet officials used their vacation days for the trip. Mo also said the trip had been approved by the government.

“They are all on leave during their trip to China," said Mo. "They were invited to join the delegation by a private think tank because they are in charge of relevant affairs.”

Mo said that the officials did not violate any cross-strait exchange regulations because they did not use any government resources.
