The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) is likely to issue a sea warning for Typhoon Noul Sunday morning.
On Friday, CWB Weatherman Lee Mong-hsuan discussed the direction and the possible impact of the storm.
“Currently, the typhoon is about 1,500 kilometers away from Taiwan. It is still moving in a west-north-westerly direction towards the Philippines," said Lee.
"Starting Sunday, it will come closer to Taiwan and will affect the eastern part and the southernmost tip of the island with sporadic rain."
The Central Weather Bureau urged the public to be especially cautious as the storm is expected to bring waves between two and three meters high to coastal areas of eastern and southern Taiwan.
Because of the storm’s trajectory, the CWB said it probably will not issue a land warning. Typhoon Noul will likely do little to help ease drought conditions in southern Taiwan because the Central Mountain Range is expected to block much of the rain the storm will bring.
