A new survey out on Saturday found that the vast majority of respondents support the status quo in ties with China. A total of 75.2% of those polled said they supported the continued development on the basis of the Republic of China Constitution, with no unification, no independence and no use of force.
The Republic of China is the official name of Taiwan’s government.
The survey was conducted by the top government body charting Taiwan’s relations with China – the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC). The council conducted the survey on May 2-3, polling 1,070 citizens over the age of 20, with a margin of error of ±3%.
A total of 71.4% of respondents supported the further normalization of interaction between officials on the two sides in an effort to promote regular development of cross-strait ties.
The MAC said that the survey results prove that a majority of citizens support the successes achieved with the government’s cross-strait policies since 2008.
