President Ma Ying-jeou has always acted in line with the law. That’s the word from Presidential Office Spokesman Charles Chen on Tuesday.
Chen’s comments came after the Taipei City Clean Government Committee accused the president of benefiting a land developer when he was mayor back in 2004. The committee suggested last Friday that Ma be investigated by the justice ministry.
Chen called on Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je to transfer the case to the authorities “as soon as possible” so that it can be investigated in a fair and just manner. Chen also said the president has always acted in line with the law and will be subject to the strictest scrutiny.
President Ma has denied any wrongdoing, calling the move “political persecution.”
