Deputy head of Taiwan’s representative office in New York, Brian Su, says that party-to-party dialogue between Taiwan’s Kuomintang (KMT) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) is beneficial to cross-strait relations. Su made his remark in an opinion piece for the Wall Street Journal.

Su said that people on both sides look forward to peace and prosperity. He said that in the past seven years, President Ma Ying-jeou’s administration has established a firm foundation for peace and prosperity. Su also said that cross-strait relations are at their most peaceful and stable in the 66 years since the two sides split.

In the opinion piece, Su said that cross-strait reconciliation has turned the Taiwan Strait from “a killing field” into a “peaceful arena”. He also said the peaceful dividends from better cross-strait relations ensure regional stability.

Meanwhile, Su said that cross-strait peace has led to a rapid growth in trade over the last seven years. Last year, Taiwan enjoyed a trade surplus of US$74.9 billion against China. Taiwan’s GDP growth is estimated to reach 3.56% this year.
