Taiwan’s top China policy-maker Andrew Hsia is set to meet with his Chinese counterpart, Zhang Zhijun, on May 23rd. That’s the word from Mainland Affairs Council spokesperson Wu Mei-hung on Friday.
Wu said that the upcoming meeting will take place on Taiwan’s outlying island of Kinmen. Zhang, who is the head of China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, will lead a delegation to Kinmen for a two-day trip.
Wu said discussion items on the agenda include Chinese tourist stopovers in Taiwan, the cross-strait trade in goods agreement, the establishment of offices on each other’s territories, extradition of high-profile white-collar criminals, and also Taiwan’s participation in the AIIB development bank.
The Mainland Affairs Council says that the meeting will help Chinese officials gain a better understanding of Taiwanese society’s views on cross-strait development. The council also believes that the meeting will help improve Taiwan-China relations.
