President Ma Ying-jeou is planning a visit to diplomatic allies in Central America in July. That’s the word from the foreign ministry on Wednesday. The president will stop over in the US on his way.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrew Kao spoke on Wednesday about the upcoming trip.
"Our understanding is that he is planning to visit Central America and the Caribbean in July," Kao said. "We are still planning his itinerary, but usually a tour will include at least three countries."
Kao also said that there is a possibility that President Ma will speak at his alma mater, Harvard University, if there is time. However, any speech will have to be coordinated with the US. Kao said that the US has always allowed President Ma to make stopovers in the US during his trips abroad. He said that Ma’s time in the US will just be a stopover and will have no political agenda.
