The Taipei Public Library’s Beitou Branch has received more attention overseas after featuring in an article by travel website When On Earth.
The library was the final entry in the website’s recent article “10 Coolest Examples of Green Buildings”. The article notes the library’s eco-friendly roof, which houses photovoltaic cells and a rainwater catchment system that gathers rain and uses it in the library’s toilets.
The article also draws attention to the library’s use of large, open windows which cut down on air conditioning costs.
This is not the first time the library has attracted international attention. Since its construction in 2006, it has won several architectural awards. More recently, it also appeared in a 2012 collection of the 25 most beautiful public libraries in the world published by U.S.-based website flavorwire.com.
