Award winning Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-hsien’s movie “The Assassin” has received rave reviews at the “Taiwan Film Panorama” seminar in Brussels. The event also featured a retrospective of Hou Hsiao-hsien’s work featuring more than 50 of Hou’s films.
Hou won the best director award at the Cannes Film Festival this month. Before releasing “The Assassin” Hou had not made a movie in 7 or 8 years.
A screening of the film on Tuesday was attended by about 260 people.
Hou revealed that his next movie will be set in modern times. He said the story will be about the friendship between a hydrographer and a young river goddess. He said he will still cast his star actress Shu Qi in the leading role.
