The Tourism Bureau is predicting that five million tourists will be moving between Taiwan and Japan this year.
Head of the Tourism Bureau David Hsieh said Friday that mutual visits have surpassed the bureau’s goal of four million earlier than expected.
Hsieh said that Taiwanese people made nearly 3 million visits to Japan last year. That means that one out of every eight people in Taiwan has visited Japan in the last twelve months. Meanwhile, the number of Japanese people visiting Taiwan has grew by 15% last year. This was at a time when the number of trips Japanese tourists made declined by 3.3%, demonstrating Taiwan’s popularity with Japanese travelers
Hsieh said that tourist marketing campaigns integrating culture, history and sports have successfully encouraged travelers from Taiwan and Japan to visit each other’s countries. He said that the Tourist Bureau will continue to work with businesses and government in both countries in order to reach the goal of five million mutual visits per year.
