Taiwan and the US launch a global cooperation training framework
Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs in Taiwan on visit

Taiwan and the United States have launched a Global Cooperation Training Framework or GCTF, which will help the two sides work together on regional and global issues.

On Monday, Taiwan’s foreign ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding with American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Director Christopher Marut.

At the signing ceremony, a visiting US official -- Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs Charles Rivkin -- said the framework is an excellent platform for the two like-minded partners.

“The framework is a milestone that will bring into full focus Taiwan’s dramatic transformation from an international aid recipient to an aid provider," said Rivkin.

"This framework will provide Taiwan a new venue to tell its story in a way that may inspire others to follow its successful development path," he said.

Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Anna Kao said that the framework will help Taipei and Washington boost security and economic ties, and work more closely in a number of areas.

“We hope that Taiwan and the United States will continue their cooperation on issues of mutual concern, including public health, environmental protection, humanitarian assistance, etc," said Kao.

"Together we will make contributions to the international community and promote peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia Pacific region and the rest of the world,” she said.

Kao said Taiwan and the United States have already set up two other cooperative programs. One is the Pacific Islands Leadership Program (PILP) and the other is the International Environmental Partnership (IEP).
