Veteran US diplomat Kin Moy is scheduled to take office as director of the Taipei Office of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT). The AIT is the de facto US embassy in Taiwan in the absence of formal diplomatic relations between the two sides.
Kin Moy’s most recent assignment was deputy assistant secretary of state in the US State Department's Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs. He was responsible for US relations with China, Mongolia, and Taiwan.
In a press release on Friday, the AIT said the outgoing AIT Taipei Office director Christopher Marut had concluded his three-year tenure and left Taiwan. According to the statement, Marut “extends his thanks to all of the people of Taiwan for having offered him a tremendously rewarding and enriching three years”.
