Tsai Ing-wen, chairwoman and presidential candidate of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), has arrived in New York on the fourth leg of her six-city US tour.
On Friday night Tsai was the guest of honor at a dinner hosted by the Taiwanese expatriate community in New York. The dinner was attended by some 1,500 supporters.
On Saturday, Tsai is scheduled to have a breakfast meeting with former US Ambassador to China and Assistant US Secretary of State Winston Lord, and former US acting Assistant Secretary of State Evans J. R. Revere. Experts from the National Committee on American Foreign Policy will also attend the breakfast meeting. The discussion is expected to focus on Taiwan-US ties and cross-strait relations.
Tsai was in Washington DC earlier this week for talks with US officials at the National Security Council, the Department of State, and the Pentagon. She is a favorite in the presidential election slated for January.
