Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Chairwoman and presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen continued her six-day trip to the United States on Saturday.
Tsai left New York on Saturday morning (local time), her tight schedule bringing her first to Houston and then on to San Francisco.
A group of overseas Taiwanese supporters greeted her at the airport in Houston. One group in particular – composed of students from Texas A & M – caught her attention. They were holding up placards with a cartoon likeness of the candidate. Tsai’s camp was impressed by the design – which was created by a PhD student -- and acquired the rights for use in the campaign.
Tsai gave a speech during her five-hour stopover in Houston, before traveling on to San Francisco later in the day. She’s set to return to Taiwan on June 9.
