KMT’s Hung says she will drop out if polls don’t go well
Keep my words

Prominent media personality Clara Chou is spreading rumors that KMT presidential hopeful Hung Hsiu-chu will drop out of the race this week and become the legislature president. Hung is the current legislature vice president and running in the KMT presidential primary.

On Friday, the KMT will conduct polls that will decide whether Hung is qualified to be the party’s presidential candidate. She must receive 30% public support to qualify. The current format is that her public support rating and a poll pitting her against the DPP candidate will each count for half of her poll figure.

But members of the KMT central standing committee are planning to propose that the poll pitting her against the DPP candidate should stand for 85% of her poll figure. They also believe she should be polled against KMT heavyweights like KMT Chairman Eric Chu, Vice President Wu Den-yih and Legislature President Wang Jin-pyng to see who has the most support.

Hung said on Tuesday that if she doesn’t receive enough support in the polls, she would not run. Hung said, "I am clearly telling everyone that I would drop out and not take on any position. I said this a long time ago. I can’t go back to the legislature nor take any position. I should be making myself clear now! You have totally misjudged Hung Hsiu-chu."

Hung said that media personalities should apologize to society for their rumors and leave the media field for at least 6 months.
