Taiwan participated in the annual Midem international music trade fair in Cannes, France this past weekend. The fair is billed as the leading international business event for music in the world.
At the fair, Taiwan’s representative to France, Michel Lu spoke of Taiwan’s rich music culture at forums and international press conferences. Taiwan’s music reflects traditional Chinese culture. Taiwan respects intellectual property rights and has advanced information and digital technology. Lu said Taiwan has become the best platform for pop music in the global Chinese community.
Lu also said the government has set up policies to enhance cultural exchanges with other countries. He encourages global pop music experts to work with Taiwan and believes Taiwan can contribute tremendously to the international music arena.
This year, Taiwan’s musicians such as Miss Ko, Magic Power, and My Skin Against Your Skin were invited to perform at the trade fair. Over 1,200 companies and more than 6,000 experts in music, technology and education from 75 countries attended the 4-day event.
