The Ministry of the Interior has issued a statement warning the public that identification cards and license plates issued by a group calling itself the ‘Taiwan Civil Government’ are invalid.
The group, which denies the legitimacy of Taiwan’s current government, issues documents of its own. The group has also claimed that US authorities recognize these self-produced documents, for which the group collects application fees.
Wednesday’s interior ministry statement says that personal identification and license plates issued by the group have no legal validity. The ministry statement says that police are cracking down on unofficial license plates. The statement also warns that the use of unauthorized identification or license plates will have legal repercussions.
