June 14th is World Blood Donor Day. The goal of the World Health Organization event, which was first marked back in 2004, is to raise awareness of the need for safe blood.
This year’s theme is “Thank you for saving my life.” It focuses on the people behind the donations, and how selfless acts can help save lives.
Taiwan Blood Services Foundation has launched a special campaign to encourage young people to give blood. That’s in light of new figures which show that donations from people between the ages of 17 and 20 have fallen nearly 40% in the last decade.
The foundation’s campaign this year is called: “We are young! We are blood donors!” The goal is to encourage more young people to roll up their sleeves and donate.
