Taiwan’s representative to Vietnam, Huang Chi-peng, says that Taiwan-Vietnam trade has much room for growth. Huang was addressing a conference in Hanoi held by Taiwan’s foreign trade association, TAITRA.
Huang said that Taiwan has become Vietnam’s fifth-largest trade partner. He said that bilateral trade reached US$13.39 billion in 2014. That’s a 15.1% increase from 2013.
Huang also said that Vietnamese demand for Taiwanese goods grew by 7.5% from January to April, indicating the reasonable price and high quality of Taiwan’s exports. He said that’s despite the fact that Taiwan and Vietnam have yet to conclude a free trade agreement.
Huang said that Taiwanese businesses have already moved beyond the riots that swept parts of Vietnam last year, bringing heavy property damage. He said that if Taiwan and Vietnam can sign an economic cooperation agreement, it will lead to even closer trade relations in the future.
