Coast Guard Minister Wang Chung-yi has returned from a tour of the South China Sea. Wang arrived in Kaohsiung Harbor on Monday aboard the newly commissioned coast guard vessel, the Kaohsiung.

During his trip, Wang visited Taiping Island, also known as Itu Aba, an island in the South China Sea under de facto Taiwanese administration. Wang praised efforts to reduce carbon emissions on the island through the adoption of solar energy. He also observed progress on a new wharf under construction on the island.

Wang greeted coast guard members stationed on the island, commending their service during the Dragon Boat Festival. He told coast guard members to continue guarding Taiwan’s sovereignty in the waters around Taiping Island and praised their sacrifice and commitment to their posts.
