On this day in 1953, a total of 75 F-84 G Thunder jet fighters arrived at an ROC air force base in Tainan, southern Taiwan. They were the first batch of military equipment to be provided to the Republic of China by the United States. 
 
On this day in 2000, a new shortened work-week program was passed overwhelmingly at the legislature. It allowed Taiwan's people to work 84 hours every two weeks instead of the former 96 hours. 
 
On this day in 2006, Taiwan’s longest tunnel, the 12.9-kilometer Hsuehshan Tunnel or "Snow Mountain" tunnel, opened to traffic. The tunnel connects the capital city of Taipei and the northeastern county of Yilan.
