Premier holds dialogue with students at forum
Premier meets with students

Premier Jiang Yi-huah held a dialogue with students at an education ministry forum on Sunday. The government is taking steps to get a better understanding of the nation’s youth following the Sunflower Student Movement in which thousands of students occupied the legislature and surroundings for 24 days. The students were protesting against the legislature’s handling of a trade in services agreement with China.

At the forum, the students asked the premier questions about the trade in services agreement, the fourth nuclear power plant, gay marriage and other hot issues.

The premier answered all of the students’ questions and said he was impressed with their direct and difficult questions. But he also reminded them that in a democracy, the minority must accept the decisions of the majority. He said if the opinions of others are different, it is not acceptable to respond with force or violence.

Jiang said since the trade in services agreement has led to so much controversy, it should be discussed further. But he said that if the legislature does not pass it, then the entire nation would have to face the consequences.
