KMT preparing to officially nominate Hung Hsiu-chu
Legislature Vice President

The ruling Kuomintang (KMT) is preparing to officially nominate Hung Hsiu-chu as its presidential candidate. The Central Standing Committee met on Wednesday and is preparing to nominate her at the party’s national council on July 19.

KMT Chairman Eric Chu said the party is a democratic one with a nomination process. He said that her recent 46.2% support in the polls is the result of her hard work. After the polls, Chu met with Hung and told her that he would unite the party and its resources to support Hung’s campaign.

"Currently according to the system, we already have a presidential candidate," said KMT official Lin Yi-hua. "So Chairman Chu hopes that throughout the election campaign, the local headquarters and central committee members can help party members and the public to get to know Hung Hsiu-chu."

Chu said that despite the various opinions that have been voiced during the primaries, the party will continue to move forward with the nomination process.
