The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) says that a tropical storm has formed in the South China Sea. Forecasters are monitoring the storm, which is called Kujira, the Japanese word for “whale.”
Right now the storm is located near the south China island of Hainan, moving northward at a speed of about 7km per hour. At its center, it’s packing winds of about 18 meters per second, with gusts up to 25 meters per second.
Forecasters say that Kujira is not likely to affect Taiwan.
