Taipower: No power rationing during national exam

The state-owned Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) says that there will be no power cuts during the national college entrance exam slated for early July.

Taipower had said that it may have to impose power rationing measures starting early July because electricity use is expected to soar in July and August. That means students taking the national college entrance exam may be affected as it is possible that there will be no air conditioning or even lighting. However, the company came under criticism from environmental activists, who believe that Taipower is holding students to ransom in order to win support for nuclear power.

In response, Taipower said on Friday that there will be no power rationing as long as power plants are properly maintained.
