The Apple Watch went on sale in Taiwan on Friday at ten select Apple-authorized resellers in four big cities and all Apple Watch units, except for the luxury edition, were sold out within one hour.
The smartwatch was launched in Taiwan at a starting price of NT$11,500 (US$371) for the plastic Apple Watch Sport and NT$17,900 for the steel-cased Apple Watch. In addition to these two models, there is also a premium edition crafted from custom rose or yellow 18-karat gold, which is available only at an authorized store in the Taipei 101 shopping mall and carries a price tag of NT$340,000 (US$10,980) to NT$570,000. The luxury version of the Apple Watch recorded sales of six units on the first day of going on sale.
A customer surnamed Hsieh, who was the first buyer of an Apple Watch at the Taipei 101 store, said he began to queue up at 6:40am.
