Officials from Taiwan and China are set to discuss trade in goods on July 2nd in Taipei. That’s the word on Monday from Taiwan’s Bureau of Foreign Trade.

The bureau’s deputy director-general, David Hsu, will preside over the meeting, along with his Chinese counterpart Sun Zhaolin, who is a commerce official.

Hsu said the two sides will discuss tariff reductions on industrial and agricultural products, and other non-tariff trade barriers like quarantine prevention and inspection.

"We will not make any decisions and will simply exchange views to narrow our differences," said Hsu.

The Taiwan delegation will be made up of officials from the Mainland Affairs Council, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the Straits Exchange Foundation.

In the interest of transparency, government officials will report on the meeting, at the legislature.
