A number of hospitals in the United States are offering to help burn victims in Taiwan, following last week’s explosion at a local water park.
Some 500 people were injured during a party at the park when colored powder that was sprayed on partygoers exploded and burst into flames.
As of Thursday, two people have died, and another 400 people are still in hospital. Of those, more than 240 people are in intensive care and burn units, with 180 people in critical condition.
A specialist with the American Burn Association in Chicago called Taiwan’s representative office in the United States, offering volunteer assistance. The specialist inquired about what is needed and has offered to provide medical supplies, equipment and medical personnel. The association will place a notice on its web site looking for specialists who are willing to help.
Meanwhile, Taiwan’s representative office says that the head of Johns Hopkins burn center had also offered medical assistance.
The representative office has expressed its thanks for these offers of help, and says that it will coordinate with the health ministry to see what sorts of equipment and personnel are needed.
