Taiwan holds military display to commemorate end of WWII
Flyover of the Apaches

Taiwan has staged a military display to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The event on Saturday took place at an army base in the northern county of Hsinchu. It was presided over by President Ma Ying-jeou and attended by senior government officials, foreign officials posted in Taiwan, and many others.

A total of 3,858 military personnel participated in the display, which featured a flyover, following a series of martial arts and marching band performances.

Sixty-four military aircraft participated in the flyover, including the US-made Apache attack helicopter, the Black Hawk helicopter, and the P-3C submarine hunting aircraft, also bought from the US.

Highlights of the military display included a rapid assault drill and soldiers riding motorcycles from a transport helicopter after it landed to fight a simulated enemy force.
