An office on the first floor of the Taipei City Government building was set on fire early Monday morning. The fire was quickly put out and no one was injured thanks to the automatic fire sprinkler system.
CCTV footage shows a man splashing an unidentified liquid after breaking a window. The suspect fled the scene and he is still on the loose.
To ensure the safety of city government employees, there will be a review of safety measures surrounding the building.
A city government spokesman said Monday that Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je has condemned the arson attack, calling it regrettable and irrational. The mayor called on the public to use rational means of making their voices heard.
