Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen says she has yet to pick her running mate.
Tsai said on Tuesday that she is still weighing her choices.
Rumor has it that Tsai might choose a non-DPP member to be her running mate.
Former Vice President Annette Lu, also a DPP member, has said she is strongly against the idea. Lu said that given that Tsai is mostly likely to win next year’s presidential elections, the choice of a non-DPP member would not be right.
Tsai spoke on Tuesday about the qualities she’s looking for in a running mate, saying that she is open to suggestions.
"While DPP membership is an important factor, during the recruitment process I think we should put more emphasis on a candidate’s integrity and abilities. [We need someone] who is able to make important contributions to Taiwan," said Tsai.
