CWB lifts land warning for Tropical Storm Linfa, urges caution

The Central Weather Bureau has lifted a land warning for Tropical Storm Linfa. The bureau had issued the warning early on Tuesday morning, but the latest projections show the typhoon skirting the southern tip of Taiwan. It’s expected to pass through waters to the south of the outlying islands of Penghu on Wednesday morning, before heading toward southern China.

As of 2 pm on Tuesday, the storm was located about 240 km southwest of the southern tip of Taiwan. It was moving northward at a speed of about 9 km per hour.

Although forecasters have lifted the land warning for Tropical Storm Linfa, there is still a sea warning in effect for the storm, and forecasters are urging people to remain cautious. Meteorologists are also warning that areas of southern Taiwan could experience torrential rains between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, local time.

Meanwhile, forecasters are monitoring another typhoon, Chan-hom, which is about 1,800 km off the coast of Taiwan. Current projections show the typhoon gradually making its way to the waters north of Taiwan. It’s expected to have the largest effect on Taiwan on Friday and Saturday. The Central Weather Bureau says that a land or sea warning for the storm could come as early as Thursday morning.
