No timetable for the 4th nuclear power plant: Presidential Office
No Nuke

The government does not have a timetable for the future of the fourth nuclear power plant which is still under construction. That’s the word from Presidential Office Spokeswoman Lee Chia-fei on Tuesday.

Lee was responding to rumors that the government has no plans to hold a referendum on the controversial power plant before 2016.

She said the power plant will not begin operations unless nuclear safety can be ensured.

“Our stance on the issue is that only by ensuring nuclear safety will it be possible [for us] to take the next step,” said Lee.

Meanwhile, Premier Jiang Yi-huah went to a local church to express his concern for former opposition leader Lin Yi-hsiung on behalf of President Ma Ying-jeou.

Lin began fasting to protest against the construction of the fourth nuclear power plant on Monday. Lin is a former chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). Jiang and Lin, however, did not meet each other.
