A report by the UK-based The Daily Telegraph Wednesday says that Castle Howard in northern England has seen a surge of tourism since the castle hosted the wedding of Taiwanese singer-songwriter Jay Chou earlier in the year.
Website traffic of the 300-year old estate has seen a 400% spike. Many visitors in the past few months are fans of Chou from China.
The influx of Chinese tourists has led to some changes at the estate. Chinese maps and brochures are now available and the estate’s gift shop now accepts UnionPay cards, a form of payment card commonly used in China. The castle now has an official Chinese name as well.
The management hopes that the growing number of visitors will help cover the costs of maintaining the estate.
