Taiwan’s baseball team beat South Korea 2-0 in the semi-finals of the 2015 Summer Universiade currently underway in Gwangju, South Korea. The victory on Friday won Taiwan a ticket to the finals.
It was the fourth victory Taiwan gained in the baseball event of the Universiade, or World University Games held every two years. Before Friday’s win, Taiwanese baseball players took down their rivals from Mexico, the United States, and the Czech Republic in the premilinary rounds.
The Taiwanese team is scheduled to fight against Japan for the goal medal Saturday evening.
Meanwhile, Taiwan lost to China 1-3 in the women’s group finals of the table tennis event, but managed to grab a silver medal.
Also winning a silver at the Universiade was Taiwanese taekwondo athlete Chuang Chia-chia.
In the men’s high jump, Taiwanese athlete Hsiang Chun-hsien won a bronze with a score of 2 meters 28 centimeters. The performance renewed his national record in Taiwan and qualified him for the 2015 World Championships slated for Aug. 22-30 in Beijing.
