CWB warns of heavy rain, strong winds as typhoon warning lifted
Stranded

The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) lifted the sea warning for Typhoon Chan-hom on Saturday morning, but warned of torrential rain and strong winds a day after the storm skirted northern Taiwan.

After causing many flights to be canceled or delayed, by Saturday the typhoon’s threat to waters north of Taiwan had diminished as Chan-hom moved further north along the coast of eastern China.

However, the weather bureau said the typhoon’s periphery could bring heavy to torrential rain to mountainous areas in central and southern Taiwan.

Typhoon Chan-hom caused little damage in Taiwan, but several people were injured and a security guard fell to his death in suburban Taipei early Friday when he apparently went out in bad weather to check on the construction site he was watching.
