Two teams of young robot designers picked up top prizes at the FLL/FTC Asia-Pacific robotics competition in Sydney over the weekend.
The top prize in “robot performance” went to a team from Kaohsiung called Transformers of Taiwan. The second prize went to a team from the southern city of Tainan called Made in Taiwan. They were competing in a field of 45 teams from 24 countries.
That was Taiwan’s best ever performance in an FLL or FTC competition, which are run by the FIRST organization. President Ma Ying-jeou sent a congratulatory message to the teams upon hearing of the victory.
The two teams of high school students also made an impression at the competition, meeting other teams and setting up booths to show off the best of Taiwan.
One of the teams created a QR code out of Legos, to enable visitors to connect to their website. The other team recreated popular Taiwanese night market games to interact with visitors.
