Taipei Mayor in South Korea to observe Universiade operations
Mayor Ko in South Korea

Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je is in Gwangju, South Korea; he’s there to receive the flag of the Universiade, or world university games, at the closing ceremony on July 14.

Once this year’s games are over, the focus will be on Taipei, which will host the international sporting event for university athletes in 2017.

Ko and his delegation visited the media center for this year’s games on Monday. He said the purpose of his trip was not to watch the events, but to see the venues and get a better understanding of the operations. One other important goal for him, he said, was to get the contact information for the people in charge.

The mayor said that he knew that his team would face many problems in the run-up to the 2017 games. He said that sometimes the best thing to do is to just ask someone with experience.

Ko said Monday that the facilities at the media center in Gwangju were quite advanced, and that his team would have a lot to consider after they return to Taipei. He said they would need to think about where they would set up the media center in 2017, and what kind of equipment would be needed.
