Two Taiwanese women hospitalized with measles

Two Taiwanese women are in hospital with measles. Taiwan’s Center for Disease Control (CDC) said on Tuesday that it’s likely they contracted the disease during a trip to China in mid-June.

A doctor with the CDC, Philip Lo, said the incubation period for measles can be up to three weeks. Since one of the women, a 29-year-old, went to Okinawa for three days in early July, the CDC has already informed Japan of the situation.

In order to prevent the disease from spreading, Taiwan’s health officials have started monitoring people who have had contact with the women. They are keeping tabs on 147 people, including medical staff. So far, no one has developed any symptoms.

Symptoms of the measles include fever, coughing, an inflammation in the eyes, and a rash.
