The foreign ministry says Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez will arrive in Taiwan next week on a three-day state visit.

Foreign ministry official Lino Cheng spoke on Tuesday about the purpose of Hernandez’s visit.

“The Honduran president will first visit Japan and Korea," said Cheng.

"On the last leg of his trip he will visit Taiwan. The main purpose of his trip is to attract more investment [in his country]. We hope that Taiwanese businesses will invest more in Honduras.”

This will be President Hernandez’s first trip to Taiwan since taking office in January, 2014.

Taiwan and Honduras have maintained diplomatic ties for 74 years. The two countries have worked closely in the areas of trade, medicine, infrastructure development, and humanitarian aid.
