Taiwan proposes initiatives on disaster prevention for APEC Summit

Taiwan has proposed four initiatives regarding disaster prevention for the agenda of the upcoming APEC Summit to be held in Manila in November.

The foreign ministry said on Thursday that frequent disasters in the Asia Pacific, such as the recent color powder explosion at a water park in New Taipei, have hurt economies. The accident has led to seven deaths so far, with 500 injured and more than 200 still in intensive care. The ministry said countries should place more attention on disaster prevention.

Other initiatives include discussions on minimizing losses to small and medium size businesses, and keeping businesses in operation after a disaster. These initiatives are now on the official agenda of the APEC Summit.
