A group of five members of the US Congress has voiced its support for Taiwan’s bid to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).
The group of US congress members met with President Ma Ying-jeou in Los Angeles on Thursday, local time. Ma was making a brief stop in Los Angeles before returning to Taiwan from a state visit to three of Taiwan’s Caribbean and Central American allies.
During an event for Taiwanese expats in Los Angeles, Representative Ed Royce said that he supports Taiwan’s efforts to join INTERPOL and the TPP as well as Taiwan’s goal of purchasing submarines from the US.
Representative Michael Honda praised President Ma Ying-jeou’s contributions to Taiwan’s security and prosperity, while Representative Judy Chu praised the strength of the US-Taiwan relationship.
