Taiwan is planning to promote industrial cooperation with Japan by sending six business delegations to Japan in the latter half of this year. Economics Ministry official Chang Chi-yu announced plans to send Taiwanese delegations to Japan on Tuesday at a forum on Taiwan-Japan industrial cooperation.
Chang said that there has been increased cooperation between Taiwanese and Japanese industry in the past two years. Taiwan has had exchanges with 34 local Japanese governments and organizations. The ministry is planning to send a delegation to Japan each month this year, and looks forward to more cooperation in the fields of green industry, petroleum, electric cars, small- and medium-sized enterprises and smart cities.
Last year, Japanese companies invested US$548 million in Taiwan. That’s an increase of 34% over the year before. Japanese investment has also gone up 72% in the first 5 months of this year. Last year, Taiwan invested US$680 million in Japan, though investment in Japan has decreased so far this year.
