Taiwan has announced a temporary ban on imports of poultry from California following the discovery of a case of low-pathogenic avian influenza in the state.

A Bloomberg report on Wednesday says that the case was discovered in a flock of quails on April 18. The report quotes a spokesman at the US Department of Agriculture’s Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service, saying that some countries, including Taiwan, have signed agreements to stop poultry imports when cases of bird flu are detected. In addition to Taiwan, Russia has also decided to stop poultry imports from California.

All California poultry shipped on or after April 19 will not be allowed into Taiwan. Meanwhile, California poultry shipped on or after April 21 will not be allowed into Russia.
